Here's a letter from a user who has had success using HeliSimRC under WINE.
He experiences a problem with the main menu painting incorrectly, but otherwise the program works.
The main menu is still functional, its just the top level is "invisible"...

I've added a followup letter, and a comment from another linux user...
Comment from another user:
I Recommend that Linux users run "jscal -c /dev/js0" after plugging in the controller, and before
running HeliSimRC. This calibrates the joystick values under Linux,
at which time stick behaviour matches that in Windows.

---------------------------------------The Followup Letter------------------------------

I have updated WINE to Version 0.9.55 on Ubuntu 7.10 (Linux) and tested your HeliSimRC.
Will you please update your website with this information?

The latest Version of Wine corrects most of the Menu problems.......There is a BLACK
display when any menu item is selected, but I can live with that.

Here is how I got it to work under Ubuntu version 7.10 with WINE version 0.9.55

1. Go to: (Ubuntu Forum - WINE)
    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=624644

Follow the instructions to get the latest update of Wine.
At item #7 above I used Synaptic to install the updated package as
Synaptic will automatically add the required additional packages.

2. Install Wine from Ubuntu Repository with Synaptic.
    SYSTEM ADMINISTRATION SYNAPTIC PACKAGE MANAGER
(Search for Wine and mark for Install, then apply it)

3. Copy the HeliSimRC Folder from USB Flash Drive to Ubuntu:
    FILESYSTEM/HOME/RICK/DOWNLOADS/HELISIMRC13
(this can be anywhere the logged in user chooses....I put it under Downloads)

4. Open a Terminal Window.
    Type the following:

    Which wine

    the following is displayed:
    /usr/bin/wine

4. Run Wine from a Terminal Window with:

    cd /usr/bin
    wine /home/rick/Downloads/HeliSimRC13/SetupHeliSimRC.exe

I got the following ERROR Message after HeliSimRC installed:
(If you get the following message "fixme:shell:DllCanUnloadNow stub"
skip down to NOTE in item #7 below.)

Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0".

5. Google search for:

what is error Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0".

    Google answer:
    sudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Find Section Device, under it change Driver "nv" to Driver "nvidia"

Also check the Section Module if you have the line that says: Load "glx"

    reboot

6. I edited the xorg.conf file in a Terminal Window and saved the file, then rebooted.

7. Execute #4 above once more.
(This time I got the following message....GOOD!)
    fixme:shell:DllCanUnloadNow stub

    NOTE:
I didn't check mark the Startup menu as this puts HeliSimRC in the Ubuntu Menus.
I only have a Icon on the Desktop to execute HeliSimRC.

8. Double click on HeliSimRC Icon, and Calibrate the E-Sky Model 66P02 Controller.
Map the Channels to make it fly correct. (Use Keyboard for IU & TH since controller has no switches)

9. FLY the Heli in Ubuntu Version 7.10!
(I did go to Winecfg and choose WinXP as default for HeliSimRC)
---------------------------------------The Original Letter------------------------------

I have installed WINE Version 0.9.46 on Ubuntu 7.10 (Linux) and tested your HeliSimRC.

I have one small problem that maybe you can help me with.

When I run the program the Pulldown Menus don't display. But when I move the mouse over the
area where the pulldown is and click the secondary menus are displayed and I can get to all
the menu selections. I have JPG's of the problem to show you what is happening. It doesn't
make sense to me.

It is probably a BUG in WINE (Windows Is NOT an Emulator). www.winehq.org

As you can see from Heli1.jpg the TOP Menu's are not displayed.
Heli2.jpg shows that everything is available if I click in the area where the active TOP Menu's are located.
Heli3.jpg shows that if I grab the top of the window and move the complete HeliSImRC window in the active Desktop in Ubuntu the
Menu's Flicker between this display and the one shown in Heli1.jpg. I can't find anything on Winehq that
helps me fix this problem. I've tried all kinds of configurations in Winecfg also. Basically Heli1.jpg is
always being displayed unless the total window is moved and then the Heli3.jpg flickers on for a few milli-seconds,
and then is gone. (I had one heck of a time trying to capture Heli3.jpg!)

Now if the Top Menu's would only be visible..... and have Sound!

Note: The Controller Sticks seem to be a bit less responsive that when run under Win XP. I can't find any
setup for the Game Controller under Ubuntu, but there might be something available. I am too new to Ubuntu
to know all of it's setups.
