Wind

HeliSimRC includes simulated wind and turbulence.

When you're first learning to hover, you probably dont want any wind. It always defaults to still air. However, as you become proficient and are getting ready to fly a real RC helicopter, you should practice with wind and turbulence to make the simulation more realistic. You may find that HeliSimRC is not as much FUN with the wind/turbulence on, but it's definitely more realistic as a flight trainer!

The wind and turbulence controls are available on the Wind Dialog box, show below.

The controls are fairly self explanatory. The speed numbers are in Miles Per Hour. The gust/lull difference is used to develop a randomized amount of wind added to the Wind Speed number. Assuming gusts are enabled, with the illustrated 4.0 / 10.0, the wind will range from 4.0 MPH to 14.0 MPH. With gradual gusts, the wind will change rather slowly. With sudden gusts, you'll have more realistic surges.

In the simulators virtual world, you're facing North. The wind direction N corresponds to blowing directly in your face. E is from right to left. W is from left to right. The direction shifts controls select how much the winds direction changes with gusts. It ranges from none, to Huge... Huge being 180 degree shifts. Small or medium is probably most realistic.

Turbulence is modelled as random gentle wind with a vertical component. It will make your hover bouncier, without constantly drifting off in one direction. Its very useful for honing your hover skills.
